Longevity is the most reliable signal in a market with almost no reliable signals. It cannot be fabricated, it is checkable against registries, and a company that has taken money for twenty years without collapsing has survived something.
It is also frequently the wrong thing to weight heavily, and this record explains both.

What longevity actually tells you
Three things it does prove.
The entity exists. A twenty year old company has filings, a traceable history and something to lose. In a market where brands appear and vanish, that alone separates it from most of the field.
Customers kept paying. Reputation work is largely repeat and referral business, and an agency that survives two decades without either is unusual.
It has been through downturns. A firm founded in 2005 has handled a financial crisis, a pandemic and several search algorithm upheavals. Nothing on its website tells you that; the founding date does.
Two things it does not prove.
The company that took your money is not necessarily the company that earned that history. Three entries below have changed ownership, and one operates under a parent that also owns another company in our records.
And the methods may not have. Search work from 2009 is not search work now, and an agency selling techniques that stopped working a decade ago can be both long-established and useless.

Read the fourth column as carefully as the second. Three of eleven are not the company whose history the founding date describes.
Where the history and the entity diverge
ReputationDefender was founded in 2006 by Michael Fertik and is one of the oldest brands in the category. It was acquired by NortonLifeLock in 2021 and now operates under Gen Digital. Reviewers report the service feels less personal since, which is the ordinary consequence of a boutique joining a large portfolio. The twenty year history is real and it belongs to a business that no longer exists in the same form.
InternetReputation.com founded 2008, ranked 583 on the 2015 Inc. 5000, and had its assets acquired by NetReputation in November 2020. The entity contracting with you is not the one that built the record, its stated headquarters varies across sources, and complaint forums document billing and refund disputes. It is also the same group as another company in our records, so the two are not independent options to compare.
Go Fish Digital founded 2005, with nearly twenty years of documented work predating the term reputation management as a category and multiple 2025 US Search Awards. Now part of the Agital portfolio following a merger, which introduces integration risk on a long engagement.
None of that is disqualifying. It means the founding date is a fact about a brand rather than about the team you will work with, and the question to ask is who is actually doing the work now.
Where longevity is doing real work
Kohrman Jackson and Krantz traces to 1918, which is not a reputation industry credential at all. It is a business law firm that added an internet defamation and content removal practice, and the relevance is institutional durability rather than category experience.
Terakeet founded 2001, still led by co-founder Mac Cummings, having pivoted from voice recognition software to search and reputation work around 2004. Serving Fortune 1000 brands with owned-asset programmes. The counterweight is three rounds of layoffs between 2023 and 2024, which is a live continuity question rather than a historical one.
SEO Image founded 2002 in New York under the same chief executive, with named enterprise clients including Sotheby’s International Realty and Canon. Twenty-three years under one leader is genuinely rare here. Only four Clutch reviews exist despite that tenure, which is a thin evidence base for a company of that age.
Reputation X founded 2005, A plus BBB rating with accreditation since 2016, covering suppression alongside Wikipedia and Knowledge Panel work. Headquarters and founder details are inconsistent across public sources, which is an odd gap for a firm of that vintage.
RM Warner Law founded 2008, more than a decade in internet defamation. The 2018 State Bar of Arizona investigation of the partners over lawsuits naming apparently fictitious defendants, resulting in discipline for two attorneys, is part of that history and belongs in any assessment of it.
WebiMax founded 2008, reputation work alongside SEO and paid media with a named project manager. The 30 day cancellation notice has produced disputed charges, and Clutch scores are strong while Trustpilot sits at 3.0 with a majority of one star ratings.
Erase.com and Guaranteed Removals both founded 2009, both under stable ownership, both using pay for success models on removal work. Guaranteed Removals also advises buyers to attempt self removal first, which is behavior a company can only afford when it is not chasing every sale.
What to ask a long-established provider
- Who owns the company now, and has that changed? Three entries here would answer yes.
- Is the founding team still involved? Two of these are still led by their founders, which is a different proposition from a brand under new ownership.
- What has changed in your approach in the last five years? An agency that cannot answer this is selling 2015 methods.
- Why is the independent review volume what it is? A twenty year old company with four public reviews has an explanation, and it is worth hearing.
